"A few months ago some of the sales monkeys come to me and ask. Hey can we tier our wireless like we do our DSL? I say uh yea I guess so and that was it.
So now I start getting orders for 1.5mb 3Mb and 6Mb installs. So I go ask about the speed stuff on the order form and they say "Well you said we could do that." UGH! Sales! and they wonder why I never open the door to my office or let them in the server room or the lab.
Any ways does anyone have a suggestion on how to rate limit biased on Mac or IP? My ideal way to do this is to put some sort of linux box at each tower so that I can traffic shape before it hits the back haul."
gunther_01: Star-OS, Mikrotik, Ikaurus, ..... There are many. Depends on your network and exactly how far you want to prioritize traffic. All of these will set limits for your customer plans. And all can be placed on small form factor hardware and sit in a small enclosure at AP location. You got some reading to do, and sales people to strangle.
