"We have a 900 mhz Trango unit that is pointed over a house next to it to see our tower. The person in that house has a cordless phone and when they are talking the SU drops off line.

Now for the weird part, her phone was a 5.8 ghz unit. Bought the neighbor several different phones in both the 2.4 and 5.8 band and same problem. Watching the radio with pings it will drop off line soon as the phone is turned on to talk and radio comes back with hang up. Finally, today got her an expensive digital 5.8 phone and all is well now.

Does this mean that some of these phones are so poorly built that they tranmit harmonics in the 900 mhz band?"

I have heard that some phones use 900 and 2.4 and 5.8 together?. I am not sure why, but maybe it is only the cheap versions?

wispman:
I second that. I looked and tried to find who said it but could not.....

tallen03:
Yes I remember someone saying that cordless phones can transmit on one frequency (say 2.4ghz) and receive on a different one (maybe 900mhz) or vice versa.

public:
Consider borrowing or renting a spectrum analyzer.
You need actual measurements to really find out what is happening.
