"I am still looking for a new way to do site surveys. I'm pretty sure I
know what I want to do. I'll try the handheld, pda version of a site
survey rig.
Tell me a little about how this way works?
Can I hook a cat 5 cable from the PDA to my radio? So I can do the SS with the exact piece of equipment I plan to deploy?
I like dell, which one would be best? Can you use one of these when you're outside?"{mos_sb_discuss:7}
wifi freak: I use an old 3650 ipaq, pocket pc 2000 and intersil sitesurvey tool w/
pcmcia expansion sleve. I use seano card 200mw as I use cb3's for cpe.
For those site surveys that require height, I use a 30' telescoping
pole from lowes and 30' lmr-400. This works great for what I need to
do. If I need to test throughput I pull out my laptop and hit my local
NDT server.
I would check ebay, they always have older ipaqs and expansion sleves.
Hydro27405: I do it two ways:
- I have a Dlink DCF-660w that I modified
for an external antenna, hook up the antenna and walk the roof or where
ever you plan to install if I get a -90 or better signal I know
everything will work fine.
- I do have a CF NIC card for plugging directly into some of the radios with either pocket putty or web interface.
I use an Ipaq hx4705 now but was using a Toshiba 755 prior and a Toshiba 740 prior to that.
I use wififofum for the software, when the new version comes out he gets some money from me.
John Galt: I presume that you want to use the Dell...
In that case you will need one of these:

I believe that this answers your question about plugging in the radio to the PDA.
